Job Responsibilities:

IDEAS is seeking a Communications Executive to support and strengthen the organisation’s public outreach and communications efforts. This role focuses on translating policy research into clear, compelling, and accessible messaging for diverse audiences across digital platforms, publications, media, and events.

Working closely with the Manager of the Advocacy and Events team, the Executive will contribute to strengthening IDEAS’ public profile by ensuring that research outputs and policy recommendations are communicated in a consistent, accurate, and engaging manner.

The Executive will primarily be responsible for developing and producing content for IDEAS’ digital platforms, particularly social media, to effectively disseminate research findings and advocacy messages to a wider audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Manager of the Advocacy and Events unit to support the organisation’s communications efforts, with a focus on content development and digital platforms.
  • Develop and manage content for IDEAS’ digital platforms, including social media, website, and newsletters, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging output.
  • Translate research outputs into accessible formats such as social media posts, infographics, short videos, and other multimedia content.
  • Support the planning and maintenance of an editorial calendar for publications, campaigns, and digital content.
  • Monitor and analyse digital and social media performance, and provide recommendations to strengthen engagement and audience growth.
  • Maintain and update website content to ensure consistency with organisational messaging and research priorities.
  • Support media engagement efforts, including drafting media materials, coordinating interviews, and organising media briefings.
  • Monitor and track media coverage related to IDEAS’ work to support evaluation of communications effectiveness.
  • Support the promotion of IDEAS events, including preparing communication materials and assisting with post-event follow-ups.
  • Coordinate communications plans and timelines for key research outputs and projects, ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Track communications outputs and contribute to reporting on reach, engagement, and impact.
  • Provide general support to the Advocacy and Events unit, including ad hoc tasks as required.
  • Report to the Head of the Advocacy and Events unit and undertake any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Specifications:

Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate degree in any discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience in communications, media, public relations, or a related field (fresh graduates with relevant internship experience may be considered).
  • Strong written and spoken proficiency in both English and Malay.
  • Familiarity with social media and basic digital content management.
  • Basic graphic design and content production skills (e.g. Canva, CapCut, or similar tools) are required.
  • Familiarity with social media management and engagement tools is preferred.
  • Experience in a think tank, NGO, media organisation, or policy-related environment.
  • Experience with website content management systems or basic web publishing.
  • Confidence and comfort in appearing on camera for digital content.
