Advancing A Competitive Economy

The Economic and Business unit at IDEAS advocates for efficient market systems, trade liberalisation, and the establishment of a fair and effective global trading system. Reducing barriers to international trade and promoting efficient resource allocation are important for greater economic openness and integration, driving growth and development. Our work extends across diverse areas, including trade and regional integration, as well as support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). By advocating for policies that promote competition and innovation, our aim is to create a more competitive economy that benefits all stakeholders.

Building A Transparent And Accountable Malaysia

The public has the right to know how the government uses taxpayers’ money, and to have a say in public policy. We advocate for efficient, accountable, and transparent use of public funds that will deliver for citizens. We advocate for reforms across key areas in public finance such as procurement, budget transparency, and the governance of government-linked companies and statutory bodies. We also map the fiscal framework between the federal government and state governments to understand the financial backbone of our federal system and how it influences our democracy. We’re committed to enhancing transparency, strengthening oversight, and promoting public engagement in the budgeting process at all levels of government.

Through IDEAS’ advocacy for impactful social policies, we strive to contribute to an inclusive Malaysia where no one is left behind. At IDEAS, we champion a more equitable society through addressing systemic barriers that hinder human well-being spanning education, health, employment and food security. Our ongoing projects target various fronts, from addressing education inequality among the Orang Asli community to tackling youth employment challenges. The objective is to foster social inclusion by alleviating poverty, combating discrimination and ensuring access to essential services for all.
