Transparency and Accountability of Covid-19 Economic Stimulus Packages: Lessons Learned and the Way Forward

The Covid-19 pandemic caused an unprecedented economic disruption, where Malaysia saw nine Economic Stimulus Packages (ESPs) swiftly rolled out over two changes in government. To monitor the accountability and transparency of these stimulus measures, IDEAS embarked on Pantau Laksana, a project which tracked the relief measures, and the data from Laksana reporting on their implementation.

The webinar aims to:

1. Discuss the fiscal responses to Covid-19 in terms of its effectiveness and impact on future fiscal management
2. Discuss lessons learnt and best practices surrounding transparency and accountability of economic stimulus packages by reflecting on the fiscal crisis response strategies of different nations
3. Contextualise learnings within the Malaysian experience of organising fiscal emergency relief measures at the national level
