ASEAN has had a longstanding trade relationship with Australia and New Zealand particularly with the passing of the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) Agreement in 2010. This relationship has become increasingly important following America’s exit out of the TPPA. But how are companies today benefitting from this trade agreement?

The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) in partnership with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) is conducting the Annual Regional Assessment of the AANZFTA Agreement. The purpose of the assessment is to better understand the impact of the trade agreement on Malaysian companies conducting business in Australia and New Zealand to better gauge industry perception on the agreement’s implementation. The assessment will involve small surveys with targeted companies as well as Focus Group Discussions.

The survey is a short structured questionnaire that assesses the utilisation rate for Rules of Origin (ROOs) of the FTA and Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs), particularly sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) and technical barriers to trade (TBT). Please follow the below link to download the survey.

All survey answers will be kept strictly confidential and can be directly submitted to IDEAS at research@ideas.org.my.

We would also like to thank the Malaysian Australian Business Council for their work in facilitating outreach to members.
