Public Forum: The NACP and the Road Ahead for Malaysia’s Procurement Regime

The recently launched National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) broke new ground in its identification of procurement as the sector most prone to corruption, with 42.8% of complaints received by the MACC being procurement-related. Well documented cases of wastage, leakages and mismanagement in government procurement are highlighted every year through the Auditor General’s reports, with tens of millions of Ringgit of taxpayers’ money lost.

The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) has published papers on procurement before, and has engaged with government extensively on the issue as well. In 2019, IDEAS hopes to re-ignite our involvement in this important area. This forum aims to be a platform for stakeholders to meet and discuss proposals to further improve Malaysia’s procurement ecosystem moving forward.

IDEAS will present a Roadmap detailing our findings and recommendations to the public, stakeholders and media.
