The details are as follows

Date: 29th April 2019
Time: 8.00 pm – 10.00 pm
Venue: Main Hall, ISTAC, No. 24, Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur

The speakers at the event include Hamdi Ulukaya, CEO of Chobani and founder of Tent Partnership for Refugees USA, Mehmet Simsek, former Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey and YB Nurul Izzah, Member of Parliament. Also will be present, Ali Salman, CEO of IDEAS, Distinguished Professor Dr Osman Bakar, ISTAC and Deborah Priya Henry.

The forum seeks to discuss the challenges of refugees by looking into different dimensions of problems such as the right to work for refugees. At present, there are 160,000 refugees in Malaysia, facing several challenges. Thus, it is important for policymakers to find solutions to these challenges, to ensure better support for the refugees and ensure they can contribute to Malaysia’s economy and society. The speakers will bring in perspectives from the business sector as well as other governments.

During the event, IDEAS will also launch a research paper that analysed the potential impact of granting the right to work to refugees.
