Ali is an economist, public policy expert and an intellectual entrepreneur with first hand experience of working in policy environments. Ali founded and successfully ran an independent think tank, PRIME Institute and also a development consulting firm in Pakistan. Ali is co-founder of a global network, Islam and Liberty Network, which is incorporated in Malaysia.
Laurence is Director at IDEAS, working closely with the CEO to manage the research programme and overseeing relations with government and industry. Laurence previously worked for the British government, where he specialised in economic and foreign policy and worked as an adviser to the British Prime Minister.
Wan Ya Shin is a Manager under the Research and Publications Division at IDEAS. Her research interests include social policy, education policy, social protection, poverty and inequality.
She was a Young Professional Fellow with the International Centre for Human Development in India, focusing on social protection in Malaysia. Prior to that, she was working with United Nations Development Programme on the Malaysia Human Development Report 2013.

Amir Ridzuan Jamaludin is Assistant Manager under the External Relations division at IDEAS. A radical decentralist at heart he believes that each group, be it cultural, political or religious should be given the space to experiment with their ideals.
Senior Executive, Democracy and Governance Unit
Aira Azhari is Senior Researcher in Democracy and Governance at the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), a public policy research organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Liverpool, UK and a Master of Laws (Public International Law) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has provided analysis on political and economic issues to Malaysian and international press, including Channel News Asia and the BBC. She has a great interest in history, literature, travelling and local and international politics. Aira loves to talk and cherishes a good conversation about any of these topics.

Adli Amirullah is a researcher under the economics and business unit at IDEAS Research and Publications Division. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He was a Royal Education Award recipient for 33rd IIUM Convocation who has shown outstanding performance in academic and co-curricular activities. Adli whose name means ‘a person who belongs to justice’ strongly believes in the principles of justice, fairness and equity
Ahmad Bashier is a Senior Executive of finance and accounts under the Operations division at IDEAS. Bashier graduated with a Bachelors degree in Accountancy (Honours) from University of Malaya (UM). Before joining IDEAS he worked as an Audit Associate at Khairuddin, Hasyudeen & Razi (KHR). A conservative libertarian, Bashier believes that nothing is impossible in this world.
Amelia obtained her education from Dato ‘Zulkifli Muhammad Secondary School, Slim River, Perak. She has 17 years of experience in administrative & operational management in several different areas such as building management, IT solutions, legal firm, and architectural firm.

Murni is an Executive Graphic Designer in IDEAS. A professional designer with a decade of experience in the digital industry, with both local and multinational companies. A thinker and the best by being passionate and objective with her work. A degree holder in Computer Science major in Media Interactive from University Technical Malaysia Malacca.
Azam Wan Hashim
Azam is an Executive in the Research and Publications division. He received his B.A. from the University of British Columbia with a specialization in Economics, Political Science and Asian Studies. Azam’s passion for policy reform is rooted in his desire to improve public welfare in the most efficient and equitable manner.
Vaisnavi Mogan Rao

Vaisnavi received her BSc in Psychology with Neuroscience from the University of Reading UK. Her research interests lie in the field of social policy, specifically in healthcare policies. Her interest in policy research stems from the desire to improve the mental healthcare system in Malaysia and other low and middle income countries. She is currently also a research consultant for Sangath, a mental health research NGO in India.
Faiz Zaidi is a Researcher under the Democracy and Governance Unit at IDEAS. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Politics and Government from the University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and a Master of Social Science (Strategy and Diplomacy) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Faiz was previously an intern under the External Relations Division at IDEAS where he assisted in project and event coordination. He is very passionate in bringing the change for the betterment of Malaysia, particularly through the access to quality education, policy reform and free social movements.

Professor Dr. Edmund Terence Gomez is an IDEAS Senior Fellow under the Enterprise & Economics Unit. An internationally acclaimed author, he is Professor of Political Economy at the University of Malaya.
Dr. Carmelo Ferlito is a Senior Fellow under IDEAS’ Economics & Business Unit. He is the Commercial Director Southeast Asia at Petersime NV (Belgium) and serves as Adjunct Professor at INTI International College Subang.
Professor Dr. Fatimah Kari is a Senior Fellow under the Social Policy Unit in IDEAS. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from National University of Malaysia (UKM), a Master of Economics from the University of Leicester, UK and a PhD (Economics) from Mississippi State University, United States.
Tricia Yeoh is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the School of Politics, History and International Relations at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, where she is currently lecturing at. She is currently on study leave from her position as Chief Operating Officer of IDEAS (Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs), an independent public policy think tank based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
HK holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Civil and Structural Engineering (UK), an MBA (UK), a Diploma in Corporate Treasury (UK), and a Postgrad Diploma in Islamic Studies from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He also qualified as a Chartered Accountant (England and Wales). HK is an Adjunct Professor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics.
Dr. Menon holds adjunct appointments with the Australian National University, University of Nottingham, UK and Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace, and has served on the Advisory Boards of the University of Nottingham Campus in Malaysia and the Cambodia Development Resource Institute. He also serves on several editorial boards, including the Journal of Asian Economics, Asian Economic Journal, Journal of Asia-Pacific Economy, and Journal of Southeast Asian Economies, among others.
