OUR INTERNS

Nazrin Iskandar

Nazrin Iskandar

Nazrin is currently interning under the External Relations division in Business Development. He will be reading Politics and International Relations at the University of Bristol, England. He is passionate about many things, like personal liberties, international politics, and classical music, with side interests in off-roading and coffee drinking.

Lai Wai Tuck

Lai Wai Tuck

Wai Tuck is currently doing his internship under External Relations division. He completed his A-Level program at Taylor’s College and will be majoring in Economics and Finance at Tsinghua University, China. Besides being interested in statistical modelling and economics theories, Wai Tuck is also keen to venture into FinTech industry. He had just developed a mobile micro-investing payment app with a team of close friends from Sunway University and Monash University. During his free time, he enjoys swimming and watching movies.

Azam Wan Hashim

Azam Wan Hashim

Azam is currently a Junior Associate under the Social Policy unit at IDEAS Research and Publications division. He received his B.A. degree from the University of British Columbia with a specialization in Political Science and Economics. He is a firm believer in prioritizing efficiency and equity, while still championing liberty and freedom. In addition to his devotion to Malaysia, Azam loves to explore a nation through its food and he is an avid sneaker and cryptocurrency enthusiast.

Meyshna Ravindran

Meyshna Nair

Meyshna Nair is a Junior Associate under the Economics and Business unit at IDEAS Research and Publications Division. She is pursuing her degree in Bsc Economics at the University of Sheffield. She aspires to analyse like an economists by the end of her time at IDEAS. In her free time, Meyshna enjoys going to the gym and strongly believes body-shaming should be stopped.

Wan Nor Alia

Leah Saiful

Leah is currently interning under the IDEAS Research and Publications division. She recently completed her pre-university education at Australian International School and is hoping to major in International Relations at university. She hopes to deepen her insight and knowledge of the different aspects of public policy, whilst bettering her research and writing skills. In her free time, Leah enjoys finding new songs on Spotify and playing her ukulele.

Muhammad Faiz

Muhammad Faiz

Faiz is doing his internship under the External Relations Unit at IDEAS Malaysia. He is a final year student doing his degree in social science majoring in Politics and Government studies at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). He is very passionate about bringing change for the betterment of Malaysia particularly through education, politics, social movements and freedom of speech. Faiz was born and raised in Pahang, but is a Kelantanese at heart and can still kecek kelate. 

 Nyoomi Kamani

Nyoomi Kamani

Nyoomi is currently doing her internship under the IDEAS Research and Publications division. She received her degree from Monash University majoring in International Studies and Communications. She is inspired by the likes of Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein and Francis Fukuyama. Her interest lies in the realms of political research and she hopes to contribute to this field in a significant manner in the near future. Nyoomi is also of Gujju descent and can totally identify with the movie, Meet the Patels.

Kyra Aishah McAfee

Kyra Aishah McAfee

Kyra Aishah is a junior associate under the external relations unit at IDEAS Malaysia. She is currently majoring in English for International Communications at the International Islamic University Malaysia. Kyra is a quiet yet strong individual and believes in living life with kindness, justice and individual freedom. Kyra is also part Scottish and part Terengganu – Senyum sokmo Terengganu!

Soo Sin Yun

Soo Sin Yun

Sin Yun is a communications intern under the External Relations Division at IDEAS. She completed her A Levels at Methodist College Kuala Lumpur and will be reading Economics and Finance at The University of Hong Kong. She has a keen interest in economic research and aspires to find novel solutions to social problems that plague our world. She enjoys hiking because she loves nature, but mainly because she finds running difficult.

Jason Wee

Jason Wee

Jason is currently doing his internship under the IDEAS Research and Publications division. He’s a rising sophomore at Princeton University, majoring at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs with certificates in Statistics and Machine Learning, and Urban Studies. Besides debating competitively as a hobby, Jason is passionate about using big data and architecture as tools to build communities. After living in Costa Rica for two years, he longs to return to the beach and realise his dream of becoming a surfer bruh.

Haissazc Shuqkin Hisham

Haissazc Shuqkin Hisham

Haissazc is doing his internship under External Relations Unit. He’s a 2nd year student doing his degree in International Relations at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Kuala Terengganu. He believes that the youth can become the most important player in bringing change to Malaysia to become a better place for all the rakyat. This Kelantanese guy has a dream to become a researcher and want to establish a policy centre in the East Coast one day.

Haissazc Shuqkin Hisham

Arveent Srirangan Kathirtchelvan

Arveent is currently doing his internship under the IDEAS External
Relations division. He will be going onto the final year of his
Masters of Engineering in Chemical Engineering in the University of
Manchester. He is passionate in marrying the pure sciences and social
science, leading him to found an online engineering magazine which
focuses on the social impact on and of the STEM field. His interest
lies in the realms of personal biases and navigating through social
constructs in the pursuit of preserving the most common ideologies,
working with as a fellow in the Independent School of Thinkers in this
area.

 Dini Nurhani

Dini Nurhani

Dini is currently doing her internship under the IDEAS Research and Publications division. She received her degree from International Islamic University Malaysia majoring in economics. Her favourite quote is “Art is the philosophy of the people”, therefore she believes that there is a dire need to educate the people about policy in Malaysia through arts in order to bring a bigger outcome and impact of the policy. Her interest lies in the realms of social development research and history of economic thought in which she has produced few writings and scripts in those areas in her personal blog.

Jasmin Aizul

Jasmin is a volunteer under the External Relations department.  She completed her A -Levels at Taylors College and hopes to pursue a degree in Politics and Economics at The University of Edinburgh. Jasmin aspires to bring positive and sustainable change to the country through education.  She believes that education is the engine for social and economic changes, and therefore should not be treated as a privilege but rather, a necessity.  She enjoys participating in competitive sports and particularly loves travelling, where she gets to meet new people and experience diverse cultures.

Shailinder Mann

Shailinder Mann

Shailinder is currently volunteering under the IDEAS Research and Publications division. He recently completed the IB Diploma Programme at Nexus International School and is on a gap year hoping to major in economics at university in the future. An interest in development economics drives his ambition to join a non profit research organisation that conducts policy outreach in third world countries faced with the stagnant obstacle of poverty. Other than a strong passion for economics and mathematics, Shailinder enjoys writing, debating, and engaging with community service initiatives. His appreciation for fashion and textile art is reflected in the musings he posts on his blog, which can be found at www.fashainista.com.

Hannah is currently doing her internship under the External Relations Unit. She has completed her high school diploma and is going to Taylor’s University and continue her studies by joining the SAM program. She believes that free healthcare should be provided for the less fortunate because everyone has the right to good healthcare.

Amirah Fazira is currently a fourth year student of the University of Malaya pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a major in Political Economy. Her role in IDEAS is as an intern in the Research Department for the duration of 4 months starting from September to December 2017. From this internship, she aspires to gain research experience and the ability to view certain issues from a wider perspective as well as enhance my critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. She aims to leverage on my interest in the field of economics to contribute to IDEAS and most importantly she looks forward to be further inspired by IDEAS.

Ching Han Ong is currently volunteering under the External Relations division at IDEAS. Having recently completed his A Levels at Garden International School, Han has plans to further his studies at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia, majoring in Business and Economics. With a keen interest in Economics and leadership, Han aims to improve his critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills during his time at IDEAS. He aims to be a resilient individual as well as an active team player. He hopes to further deepen his insight and knowledge of the Economic world during his time at IDEAS. Despite all this, Han enjoys the simpler things in life such as coffee and food. He really likes coffee.

Aryudin Proehoeman

Ary is presently doing his internship under the IDEAS Research and Business unit. He is currently in his year of graduation at Sunway University, and is expected to earn a degree in Financial Economics. He plans to understand the inner workings of public policy research with the hope to learn the skills required to develop and implement policy in the future. The niche he wants to pursue lies within the realm of policy-making — big picture problem solving that solves the needs of millions. Also, spends inordinate amounts of time plugged in and on Spotify.
